Praised as a ‘young artist ready for the big time’, soprano Susannah Biller, joins the 2010 roster of the San Francisco Opera as a member of the prestigious Adler program. During the 2010-2011 season, she will appear on the mainstage as Sophie in Werther, Barbarina in Le nozze di Figaro, and Kristina in The Makropoulos Case. Following her much celebrated success in the 2009 San Francisco Opera Merola Program in roles such as Musetta (La Boheme), Euridice (Orfeo), Monica (The Medium), Elvira (Italian Girl in Algiers), and Despina (Cosi fan Tutte), Ms. Biller will sing Madame Herz in the San Francisco Opera Adler Fellowship production of Die Schauspieldirektor at the Herbst Theater. Also this season in concert, she will debut with the UC Davis Orchestra in Beethoven’s Egmont Suite and will give a recital of Wolf's Spanisches Liederbuch on the Schwabacher Recital Series.
A recent winner in the Metropolitan Opera Mid-South District auditions, Ms. Biller made her professional debut singing Tytania (Midsummer Night’s Dream) with Opera North and Opera Italia. A graduate of the University of Tennessee and Northwestern University, she performed many opera roles including Gretel (Hansel & Gretel), First Lady (The Magic Flute), Susanna and Barbarina (The Marriage of Figaro), Mary Warren (The Crucible), Melisande (Pelleas et Melisande), Nanetta (Falstaff), and Amy (Little Women). A gifted communicator on the concert stage, the soprano has also been heard in performances of Brahms’ Requiem, Handel’s Messiah, and Faure’s Requiem.
